This early 20th-century ceramic garden stool is the ultimate in rough luxe. The earthenware stool is sculpted to a traditional drum shape, with gracefully curved sides and a contrasting top and bottom, a nod to the stretched hide surfaces of an actual drum. The exterior is textured with remnants of its original red and black painted decoration, now beautifully weathered from a century of use to reveal the light coloring of clay body underneath. Traditionally used as a place to rest one’s feet, ceramic drum stools are ideal today as side tables, pedestals or garden seating.
