This slender console table dates to the early 20th century and was once a fixture of a scholar-official's study, originally used as a low surface for reading or taking tea atop a kang platform or daybed. Crafted of elm with a lacquered finish, the narrow table stands on thin legs ending in subtle hoof feet, focusing the eye upwards to its squared frame. The altar features two shallow drawers and a central compartment enclosed by two small doors affixed with a full moon brass lock plate. Updated to a conventional modern height, the shallow table is ideal today in an entry, hallway or bathroom.

Repair to joinery of front left leg.
