This stone top table exemplifies Organic Modern style with an emphasis on natural materials. The irregular shape and patterning of the stone slab top evokes the complexities of nature, the white marble field marked by currents of light green, pink and black mineral inclusions. Unearthed in Jiangsu province, the stone slab has been polished to accentuate its mottled coloring and is elevated by a reclaimed wood base for use as a console table.

Composed of black walnut, each wood leg was sculpted by a local Chicago artisan who power carves with handheld tools to create unique spherical forms. Carved with smooth contours and contrasting proportions, the stacked design of the legs recalls the momentary balance of a Tibetan mani pile, a makeshift stupa formed of mounded stones. Found along mountain passes throughout the Himalayan region, mani stone piles embody the accumulated effort and good wishes of all who pass nearby. Paired with the stone top, these abstract forms achieve a harmonious tension and asymmetry, at once a functional console table and a true work of art.

This sculptural table consists of three separate pieces. The stone slab is not affixed to the wooden legs and its heavy weight keeps it stable. The slab weighs approximately 300 lbs.
