This 19th-century porcelain bowl has a delicate, tapered form, finely potted with a short footed base and thin walls that flare slightly at the lip. The interior is decorated in low relief with a koi amidst crashing waves, a symbol of harmony, wealth, and luck. A pale glaze coats the dish on all sides, appearing a warm creme on the sides but celadon-blue where it gathers at the bottom. The translucent glaze has aged beautifully with time, textured with imperfections, iron oxidation, and fine crazing.
