Dated to the early 20th century, this unusual seat is a meditation chair, or chan yi, designed with a wide, square seat for meditating in the cross-legged lotus position. Enclosed within an elmwood (yumu) frame, the broad seat is comprised of flattened bamboo and raised upon thin, square legs linked by straight stretchers. Minimally decorated, the chair owes its simple beauty to the interplay of lines drawn by its angular frame and low railing running along the back and sides. Richly textured from years of use, this unique chair adds design intrigue to modern interiors with its balanced form and timeless rustic appeal.

Additional Dimensions:
Seat to Floor: 19.5"H
Railing: 5.75"H

“I am particularly fond of PAGODA RED as we have known the family for so long. Betsy is a professional in every way and her intelligent taste comes from a long line of family knowledge in the arts. She and her team are the very best to work with and we find treasures with every visit!”
