Filled with burning coals, this finely crafted 19th-century brazier once warmed the hands of a wealthy lady on a cold winter's night in northern China. The portable brazier is hand-wrought of white brass with a rounded body, two arched handles and an intricately-pierced lid. Surrounding a central shou character, five bats fly with outstretched wings , representing the Five Blessings of old age, wealth, health, virtue, and peace.

Some discoloration and significant oxidation on the interior.
